# Aider × Tokenade

> Tokenade hooks into Aider; a few layers stay partial, detailed below.

## What `tokenade install` does

- No hook, plugin or MCP client in Aider. `tokenade install` adds a `load:` line to `~/.aider.conf.yml` pointing at `~/.tokenade/aider-startup.txt` (`/run tokenade map`) — skipped if you already have a `load:`.
- Local proxy via `openai-api-base` in `~/.aider.conf.yml`. A local LLM proxy (loopback only, started at boot) sits between you and the model API and folds tool results inside each request. `tokenade install` checks it answers before switching you over and restores your original config otherwise.

## Coverage

- ◐ Command compaction — Partial
- ◐ Web search — Partial
- ◐ MCP optimization — Partial
- ✓ Code search — Supported

## What isn't compressed

- No MCP client, so nothing to fold there.
- Shell output, web pages and documents are folded by the proxy, not at the tool: re-read dedup and context stay partial.
- Where no hook can reach you, call Tokenade yourself: `tokenade wrap '<cmd>'`, `tokenade web <url>`, `tokenade read <file>`.

## Install

    npm install -g @tokenade/cli
    tokenade install
    tokenade login

`tokenade uninstall` restores every file it touched.
