# Codex app × Tokenade

> Tokenade hooks into Codex app; a few layers stay partial, detailed below.

## What `tokenade install` does

- The app reads `~/.codex/config.toml`: it gets the Codex proxy provider — folded tool output, secret scrubbing, the lean-output note. A local LLM proxy (loopback only, started at boot) sits between you and the model API and folds tool results inside each request. `tokenade install` checks it answers before switching you over and restores your original config otherwise.
- MCP: every third-party server in `~/.codex/config.toml` is wrapped as `tokenade mcp-proxy -- <original command>` (original kept, undone by `tokenade uninstall`), so its results reach you folded. The app's own built-in servers are left alone.

## Coverage

- ✓ Command compaction — Supported
- ✓ Web search — Supported
- ✓ MCP optimization — Supported
- ✓ Code search — Supported
- ✓ Lean output — Supported
- ◐ Context optimization — Partial
- ◐ Re-read dedup — Partial
- ◐ Documents & media — Partial
- ✓ Privacy — Supported
- ◐ Secret redaction — Partial

## What isn't compressed

- The app runs no hooks: folding happens in the proxy, so tool-side features (web fetch, code-search tools, document reading) are partial.
- Re-read dedup only catches exact repeats.

## Install

    npm install -g @tokenade/cli
    tokenade install
    tokenade login

`tokenade uninstall` restores every file it touched.
