# Copilot (VS Code) × Tokenade

> Tokenade hooks into Copilot (VS Code); a few layers stay partial, detailed below.

## What `tokenade install` does

- Detected from VS Code's user folder (Copilot Chat ships built in).
- Rules: `.github/copilot-instructions.md` in the project.
- MCP: every third-party server in VS Code's `mcp.json` is wrapped as `tokenade mcp-proxy -- <original command>` (original kept, undone by `tokenade uninstall`), so its results reach you folded.

## Coverage

- ◐ Command compaction — Partial
- ◐ Web search — Partial
- ✓ MCP optimization — Supported
- ✓ Code search — Supported
- ✓ Lean output — Supported
- ◐ Context optimization — Partial
- ✓ Re-read dedup — Supported
- ◐ Documents & media — Partial
- ✓ Privacy — Supported
- ✓ Secret redaction — Supported

## What isn't compressed

- No hook can sit in front of the extension's own tools: shell output, web pages and documents arrive raw unless you route them through `tokenade wrap` / `web` / `read`.
- Context and re-read dedup stay partial for the same reason.
- Where no hook can reach you, call Tokenade yourself: `tokenade wrap '<cmd>'`, `tokenade web <url>`, `tokenade read <file>`.

## Install

    npm install -g @tokenade/cli
    tokenade install
    tokenade login

`tokenade uninstall` restores every file it touched.
